What’s The Secret Of RAS & How Can I Use It?
For the purposes of pest control and being #1 in a clients mind this is one of the best ways to activate the RAS that I’ve found. Maybe you have another that you’re willing to tell us about. It’s often called a Tag Line, Motto,Elevator Pitch or Slogan but I like to think of it best as the Memory Hook! It is a simple, short, memorable phrase or statement in which your company is identified and your hook is planted in the mind of that person. This is nothing new whatsoever & some famous ‘memory hooks’ have lasted for decades.
When I say; “Like a good neighbor________ is there.” You instantly know what company name to insert don’t you? What if I say; “What’s in your wallet?” Again, you know just who I’m speaking of and indeed, whenever a situation arises where you have credit card or insurance issues it is most likely these two companies that will have the leading edge in your mind for the competition of your business.
If you’ll notice, neither hook is of great length, is not complicated but still very powerful. About the only thing you could add would be a call to action by saying “call, give us a try, use our…” These are short little directions that spur your client to the next step and is something you should consider. It needs to be short and to the point at all times so if you run on too long– you & your client will never hook up.
Memory hooks can change over time so don’t feel like you have to choose the perfect one for life. My hook is– Hi I’m Jerry Schappert, The Bug Doctor–Where All My Patients Die. Another one I’ve used is “we make house calls.” Both do what I need them to do and that is stick in the mind of a client/potential client and when the conversation turns to pest control- the RAS in that person reaches in and grabs my hook and brings it forth for all the world to see.
