The worst roach job I’ve ever seen Part 3 The Show is Canceled The Matrix was Betrayed

I’m not one for taking breaks when I work cause I like to just get in and get the job done. I’m famous for woofing my lunch down on the road, working in the pouring rain and don’t even think about calling me during a job. Somehow in this case I decided to take a few minutes and sit in my non air conditioned apartment on wheels (thanks Megatron Pest Company) and just try to take in what I had just witnessed and what I was about ready to get back into.

Have you read part one and part two? If not perhaps you should and make sure to come back and the conclusion to this story might make a whole lot more sense. I know I’ve only seen a fraction of what other pro’s and homeowners alike have seen so please feel free to comment below and share your worst roach experiences.

The worst roach job I’ve ever seen Part two The Matrix Reloaded

In most of pest control work the thrill of the hunt is one of the most satisfying aspects. Finding clues that no one else can see and tracing down your prey to kill it is most gratifying. Through that archway I was sure there’d be no thrill on this day. If you just clicked into my site and found this story please follow this link to read part one. If you’ve checked in to see what it is that set me off into a torrent of pest control fury, buckle your laptop down and get ready for an extreme battle of epic proportions.

The worst roach infestation I’ve ever seen Part one The Matrix

I love talking to the old veterans of pest control and hearing their stories of horrific infestations that would make even Stephen King shudder. Roaches so bad that snow shovels were used to scoop them up after the service was done, rats and mice so thick that mattresses housed dozens and went flat once they were eradicated. Chemicals so powerful flies would drop in the neighbors yard the minute they sprits around. Now for some of these old pros it’s hard to know if after 30 years some of their stories weren’t just a little embellished but even if they were every tall tale has always got a little truth in it.

I’ve been around the bug world for about 25 years (where’s the time go? can you believe I’ll be 29 next year? 😉 and I’ve seen some really wild stuff. I’m not sure if this story qualifies as a real horror flick that’ll make you run for the door screaming but it is definitely one of the worst I’ve seen;

I always have great Decembers even without the numbers

Don’t know what it is, my believing, dumb luck or the aligning of the stars but I always have my best months in December. While you might think I’m speaking strictly of numbers you’re only partially right. In pest control everything is numbers and you gauge days, months and years against one another and somehow you know if you are a success. Actually my biggest numbers month was a couple years ago in the month of July (2 HUGE jobs) but December has been consistently a time of surprising results, advancements and great rewards.

To Hustle Takes No Skill At All (Keeping And Advancing In Your Pest Control Job)

I played football as a youngster and had dreams of being a Green Bay Packer running the ball like my favorite running back # 42 John Brockington. He wasn’t the greatest back who ever lived but he was the first NFL back to gain 1000 yards in each of his first 3 years as a pro but his career fizzled soon after that. The one thing I remember most was he ALWAYS kept his legs churning and would power through would be tacklers rather than running around them. Besides, Brockington! Who wouldn’t want that studly sounding name?

Chinese drywall and Brown Stink bugs

Apparently we have two things in which to thank China for of late. #1 is all that lovely drywall they created that is making homes across America simply unlivable and for their gift of the brown stinkbug back in 1998. Well so far both their gifts really ‘stink’, literally.

Spiders have tales you shouldn’t believe

Spiders are perhaps one of the most feared creatures on earth. Stories of arachnids abound and the fantastic tales grow each time they are told. From the spider who lived in a woman’s hair for years to the lore of the arachnid actually stalking people whom they would kill and wrap up in huge tombs of web. In reality spiders are almost a non factor when it comes to human activity. Sure you may see them frequently on a orb up by the gutter or have one scamper across the kitchen floor from time to time but the mere fact that there are untold numbers of this beneficial creature living amongst us and so few encounters ever end up with a problem is fact enough that this loathsome being is nothing to be feared.

Got bugs? Maybe it’s a YOU problem

In my business it’s about 60% education, 30% application and 10% YOU when it comes to an absolutely 100% bug free home. Now let’s break that equation down just a bit and see what we get.

Do silverfish paks even work?

For years I’ve bought and used silverfish paks almost on a daily basis. Now I’ve been around for awhile and I think I’m a pretty good judge of what works and what doesn’t. I see a lot of silverfish damage to storage in attics, fecal matter under the insulation and even some dead ones on a glue board from time to time but one thing I rarely see is any signs of eating on the silverfish paks made just for them.

Delusional parasitosis or am I just paranoid?

Spend any time in the pest control industry and your bound to run into people who have their imaginations get the best of them about insects. This ranges quite a bit and since I’m not a psychologists I’m not really qualified to tell you if the person who sees two earwigs on the kitchen floor & thinks they’re being over run is nuts or that the guy who has about 1000 german roaches perusing his counter tops each night and say’s “they aren’t that bad” is ready for a sit down with Dr Phil either. No, I won’t venture to what I think of a persons psyche and I’ll tell you why.

Roach Baiting At A Bar? Maybe You Should Pour Yourself A Drink

I love baiting for roaches- it is a valuable tool and when it comes to german roaches we need all the help we can get. What I don’t agree with is technicians, companies or groups who insist on baiting only for german roach control. It DOESN’T work and often times the customer is left out in the cold still infested with the problem and now perhaps disillusioned with pest control as a profession.

Carpenter ants in Florida

I’m pretty well versed with carpenter ants having dealt with them in many different areas. The farther north you go the more destructive this ant can be but in the sunshine state they’re not even on the top 10 list of pests that infest your home. There are two main species that are known to get in structures in Florida. Camponotus floridanus (Buckley) and Camponotus tortuganus (Emery). People here also call them the ‘Bull or Wood’ ant but by any name you choose they can be a real pain as they build up over the years in spite of all the spraying that homeowners do.

Termite Treatment For A Mobile Home

It’s not very often homeowners will venture up under their homes. Although I did write an article about an 80 year lady who did. I can’t blame anybody for not wanting to crawl under the house where it’s dirty and spider webs hang down like drapes in a haunted mansion. This dark abyss is often neglected by humans but is put to full use by insects, and critters of all kinds including termites.

Treating strategy for trailing ants

Did you know that the ants you see walking along in a trail at the most only represent 10% of the colony? Just realizing this should alert you to the fact that while you’re dousing even hundreds of foraging ants your treatment is only going to be mediocre at best. It can be difficult to rid your home or yard of this most determined insect and if you just do it 10% at a time it could take forever.

Treating Pests Around People On Oxygen

In Florida we have the great privilege to serve the those who have many more years on this trail we call life. For me, I love the wisdom and grace that this great section of our society has and try to glean every bit of experience from their trails already blazed. What the mind hasn’t lost sometimes the body can’t sustain and life cuts them no break since they too get bugs and pests that must be dealt with.
