In my little way I like to think that pestcemetery is helping people all over the world with their pest control needs. I am just a miniscule amoeba in this great big world wide web but I have a voice and my work matters. On some nights I do not have this attitude as the frustration of writing to an unknown audience takes its toll. Does anybody care? Can anyone hear me? Just about the times when I am lowest I will receive a nice note or a thank you from someone whose question I answered saying their problem was solved or that my writing is something they look forward to. That is my reward for now and that keeps me going. This is not a how to article or a bug article at all but it is dedicated to those who feel this way in whatever endeavor they find themselves in.
The following is a summary of notes from seminars I’ve been to and although the words did not come from me directly, I have made them own. It does not matter if you want to start a business, be a better father or any other worthy undertaking, you need to take action. No one will do it for you but many good hearted people will inadvertently hold you back. Take heart, have hope and take charge.
There are 3 rules in life; #1 Do what’s right #2 Do everything to the best of your ability and #3 Show people you care. Lou Holtz
The rules are simple but they don’t guarantee anything except a chance to do it again tomorrow. Doing what’s right is the moral thing to do but it also builds trust. If you always do the right thing then your friend or neighbor will always know they can count on you. Doing things to the best of your ability does not mean you will get it right every time nor does it bring automatic success. If 80% of a certain task is your honest best what more can you do? More importantly how can you criticize yourself for giving your all. There are only two opinions that matter and that’s you and God so do your best and you will be free from condemnation which is a killer to life’s joy. Show people you care, reach out a helping hand or speak with a kind tongue. No one will follow or give any heed to an uncaring person, at least not for very long. No one will adhere to rules 1 and 2 if they have no care in their heart and very few give care to an uncaring soul.
It’s your life and you make of it what you will. Their are so many distractions that even the chore of writing down goals can be a monumental task. If it’s is going to be done it is up to you. Take ownership of the moment and get ready for some bumps in the road. Keep your eyes on the goal and resolve to finish what you’ve started regardless of the nay sayers and the obstacles you will encounter. It’s Ok to let criticism bother you, just don’t let it get to you. When others say you can’t you say I can and I am. If there is hope in the future there is power in the present. Look to finish the race.
Fear forges great courage, if you don’t have fear then you cannot have courage. Courage is overcoming fear. When you are no longer fearful you are either in your comfort zone or stuck back at the roads beginning staring at your list of goals and not moving. Fear either paralyzes you or causes you to move; Get moving.
At the end of your life you’ll undoubtedly have these two thoughts. I wish I had or I’m glad I did. You’ll either wish you had faced your fears and given yourself at least a shot or you’ll be glad you did even if the success wasn’t all that you hoped it would be. Chances are if you have more “I’m glad I did’s“, your achievements will have been great and you will have lived a life with no regrets.
