There are some things in life I don’t like very much: going to the dentist, changing a flat tire in the rain or getting caught singing in the car at a red light. I’m sure you have a list too but there is one thing that out of marital obligation I must do but I sure don’t enjoy much. Going out to a restaurant to eat.
It’s not like I don’t like the idea of being served and not having to clean up. I’m not a cheap person per se and I usually tip quite generously. It’s just that I have been in the pest control industry for over 25 years and I have see some of the nastiest kitchens known to man.
Roaches by the thousands frolicking on pots and pans, mice poop on stacks of dishes, last weeks lunch special fermenting under the cook line, you name it and I’ve come face to face with these horrors.
Not every kitchen is like this and all restaurants are inspected from time to time but enough of them are so disgusting it always gives me pause when my wife makes the suggestion for the night out. I can’t help but look the place over as we are escorted to our table and I strain to look all around our table. My wife won’t let me bring my flashlight and the places are almost always so dark. (That makes me wonder too)
Well I’ve been married just about as long as I have been a pest control operator so I guess if I want it to stay that way I’ll continue to frequent fine dining establishments. After all isn’t there a creed? “If it doesn’t kill me, it makes me stronger.”
