High Priced Useless Termite Tools?

What would you say would be the perfect termite inspection tool? Of course it would have to be 100% right? No false positives, never a possibility of something else that triggered it- inexpensive is a given and it would have to be durable. Well that’s a pretty good start but I ask you. Is there any ONE TOOL that fits this bill?

In this hi-tech world where we have gadgets for everything I’m sorry to say that there is no ‘silver bullet’ gizmo that absolutely fills the above description of the perfect termite detection tool. BELIEVE ME I WISH THIS WASN’T TRUE! One reason is of course because I’d find more termites and make more money- The other reason is because I wouldn’t have spent so much money on all these different devices that should have helped me but in the end have proven not 100% and even completely useless even when I already know the termites are present. Now don’t misunderstand me- there are times when these tools have worked and aided me greatly. This is just to illustrate they’re not fool proof and shouldn’t be relied on as a stand alone technique or method of finding subterranean termites.

The following are a few videos I took where I used these tools on an active infestation and you might be surprised and/or discouraged by the results.I’m not done with shooting all of them so watch for more. Also I’d love to hear about your tools you may have and hopefully a success story or two.

As an Entomologist and owner of my own pest business for 38 years in Massachusetts….I must admit, watching your methods and listening to your advice is very refreshing. Considering the trade magazines are full of suits, salesmen, office jerks and consultants trying to sell junk, your in field pest vidoes
are right on the money at the control end….good to see another pro….great work.

  • Wow Thank you so much-

I get tired of the “picture perfect” products that never fail too. Magazines and tech books are great but drag one of those tools under a home once or put near a pile of slop in a restaurant– That’s the true test if they’ll hold up, let alone do what they say.

Good ol Massachusetts– my son was a Bridgewater ‘Crazy’ Bear for a year– (aviation) He likes the snow to play but not to live in so back to Fla he came.

    Thanks for the kind words
    I really appreciate it.
