The University of Florida has done it again and it’s not even football season. Researchers and Wayne Walker, pest manager for UF’s campus housing have teamed up to create a low cost heat treatment system for annihilating bedbugs.
Anyone unfortunate enough to experience this pest and the great effort not to mention expense would appreciate this common sense low budget way to achieve a bedbug free environment.
“You’re very limited in what you can do to fight bedbugs,” said Koehler, an author of the study. “This is a good way to relieve infestations in bedding and other items people have close contact with, and it controls all life stages of bedbugs.”
Now I don’t recommend that you try to replicate this treatment as it involves potentially risky dealings with heat but you can read the article and view the video to gain some understanding of how it works. It won’t be long and some entrepreneur somewhere will develop this in a safe and useable manner for do it yourself bug service. Besides, heat treatment for bedbugs is already on the market and pest control companies everywhere have invested in the proper tools and training to help you in this dilemma.

WILL STEAM KILL BED BUGS
Yes it will Debbie,
I’m not sure of all the particulars but any temp over 120 will do it. They have machines that produce dry steam that work quite well. Also you could try to freeze them. Just put the thermostat to 48 or below—–it will only take about 50 days to get them that way.
Thanks for reading

I’m a little surprised of this advice given your moniker but I appreciate you sharing.

Yes it (heat) will they don’t like heat, but it has to be a high heat , I read it online from a site that was by a pest control. Also from one other guy, he said go in your house with a gas can, walk out the front door and throw a match in! They do not like light , so when you turn off the lights you may see them come out! I have had these welts on my arms & legs for about 6 wks now, everyone was telling me it was to do with medication and the sun. It wasn’t until 2 nights ago I noticed this reddish-brown, round-oblong critter crawling on one of my couch cusions. so they were actually not in my bed but on my couch? Now, I am the only one out of 5 of us that has ever been bitten???? So after seeing the little ****** I killed him immediatly. Then I went out and bought 2 bottles of Rubbing Alcohol and doused my couch in it. also with my couch being beige in color, I seen the trademark of the bed bug, they leave black (dried blood) streaks near where they are living! So once I found the areas that had the most black streaks (near creases in the couch) I peeled the creases back and found hibernating bed bugs! These were the biggest areas I poured the alcohol. Then I covered it with a white sheet. AS we did not have a new couch I poured the 2 btls of alcohol over the couch until the wknd when we bought a new set.
SOooooo, if you see welts on your extremities (arms, legs etc) look for black streaks, and try not to leave it too long, as I did and they got worse!!!!!
I also put any fabrics that were near the couch in a black garbage bag and put them out in direct sunlight then washed them in hot water, then put them in the dryer! THEY DO NOT LIKE HEAT!!!
