Its probably the best reading I’ve read in pest control. While the magazines can be informative to a specific technical issue, or reporting on trends in sales. I find them for the most part boring. They always contain the same who’s who in pest control. The same companies. and the same redundant topics. I browsed your articles and found it all encompassing in pest control. You write things all people can relate to in pest control. From the admin side (loved your philosophy on “ever account has a lifespan”). THe inspection with the little old lady following you around throughout the house on a termite treatment and the sales person telling a customer she had carpenter ants when in fact it was citronella ants. Now that’s stuff I can relate to. You do a great job! I can tell you like what you do. I do also.

    Jerry,

Very impressive, both sites. You son is amazing. The detail, yet “userfriendliness” of his website, is both pleasing to the eye, nice to listen to (youtube) and helpful to those who wish to learn to fly. I will, without reservation, pass that website along to all of my aviation oriented e-mail contacts so they, in turn, can pass it along to those they know who can use your son’s book. Fantastic. http://www.m0a.com/

I really enjoyed http://pestcemetery.com/ . It was fun and informative to see the items there and I didn’t even get a chance to see it all yet. I really like the question you asked, “Would you do pest control service differently if you knew there was a hidden camera?”

I’ll check out the rest later!

Great job, you and your son. Loved it.

I know I have carpenter ants coming in the corner of my house up to my 2nd floor bathroom. I have tried all kinds of baits to no avail – I called an exterminator who wants to spray all over my house and I was hoping because I am very allergic to chemicals that there might be some other way. is there any hope in baits? Help

About the only thing I could ever get carpenter ants to eat was chopped up crickets. Just a finicky bunch I guess. You should look at using the non-repellant approach to carpenter ants. Arilon, Phantom are just two sprays that work very well with social ants and lets them do all the work of spreading it throughout the colonies.

Jerry, I’ve been doing my own Pest Control business since 1989, only part time. Have Not advertised ever. I did it part time only because I was afraid I’d never have steady income, because you know how business can be at times. Especially in this economy now. So when I worked Full Time all the time, at my main jobs (non-pest control companies), I very rarely had time for my own business anyways, or was too tired!! So I just took pest control jobs, one here, one there, you know. But I kept my License re-newed Every year, to always have something to fall back on. Like Now in 2010, I Lost my job of 15 years!! They let me and others go for NO reason!! I’ve been trying again over a year now to get another job, No Luck! Well I know most of the reason is my age. I am in my 50′s. I am almost in Debt. Had to dip into my retirement money twice, almost gone now. I need to do my business now More than ever! I had Signs made for my Truck last year (very impressive). Had new cards made. My business is on Yahoo search and Bing for Free. Now I also want to have my own Web Host site, which doesn’t cost too much a year. I am too old now to ever trust an Employer anymore, what they did to me. Besides that, it was always my Dream to get this off the ground at it’s best. Now I have the time, unlike before. Do you know for sure if a Web Site will be good? Any input you give will help me Tons!! Please reply, and can I follow up back to you again? Thank You Much!!

  • Jerry

Jerry, By the way I live in Wisconsin. So I don’t have the 12 months warm climate like you. But again, any advise will help me from you. Oh, and i do get many people coming up to me asking for cards (but that’s it). And I advertise for Free also, on a local Craigs List here where I am. And got a few calls from that. I already have a Domain Name picked out that has Not been taken yet. As well as chose the web site I want to go with.
Again, Please write back. Thanks a million!!

It was very wise of you to keep your license all these years. You’re on the right track with ‘free advertising’ as much as possible. I would suggest for you to check out my articles in the business topic area. http://pestcemetery.com/category/business/  You should find plenty of great ideas to keep this rolling. Of course I am more than happy to answer specific questions anytime. If you don’t mind, just click the “Ask The Bug Doctor” tab at the top and that’s a better place (and faster) to do that.

Look forward to hearing from you.
